My Uncle Dewey Cambre, my mother's brother, wore this Marine emblem in World War I with the 5th Marine Division in Europe.
When my brother, Reed J. Perilloux, enlisted shortly after Pearl Harbor when he was barely 18, Uncle Dewey gave the emblem to him and he wore it through some of the bloodiest battles of World War II on Okinawa, Pelillu, Iwo Jima etc. Reed came home with the emblem and two Purple Hearts. Years later as a teacher and a coach, he loan it to one of his students who wore it in Korea. And, more years later he loan it to another student who wore it in Viet Nam.
Today, Pearl Harbor Day, Reed J. Perilloux, now 91, wore it in the Parade in Colfax, Louisiana.
