An Alum Remembers

Dauphine Street and the Mississippi River

Sitting on a bench overlooking the Mississippi River, a 1980 alum, Kevin James Landry, remembers when this campus was filled with boys and noise, learning and living, and Holy Cross Brothers overseeing it all. That was before Hurricane Katrina and the breaking of the levees on the Industrial Canal and the flooding. The gymn, high school building, middle school building and the Brothers' Residence were all bulldozed.
Today, the only remaining building is the Administration Building built in the late 1800's. The property sits idle.
The new Holy Cross School is on Paris Avenue, halfway between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain.

There is so much the rest of us don't know or don't recall about Katrina.

It looks so empty. Evocative and moving photo.

Scholars frequently revisit thier place of learning, usually when it's been a pleasant experience.
