There are huge live oaks on bird island where the egrets nest. The smaller birds such as the cattle egrets and snowy egrets nest in the smaller trees and shrubbery, however I have not seen the smaller birds yet this year. This photo takes place in the very top branches of one of the live oaks and the area is separated from the photographers by a body of water.
This couple has their bright colors around the eyes and still a touch of red in their eyes as is a sign of the mating season. They also have their beautiful mating plumes. When the chicks hatch the colors will fade and the plumes will drop off.
