The Oil Gush is Getting To Me

Southeast Louisiana

I've had enough! The powers that be are not working together or fast enough to stop or cleanup this huge oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.
Someone suggested surrounding our sensitive barrier islands where the birds are nesting and the shrimp are growing with bales of bagasse. The person in charge does not even KNOW what bagasse is! It is what is left of sugarcane after the juices have been removed--the pulp of the sugarcane and it is very absorbent and would be wonderful to soak up oil.
B P (formerly British Petroleum) is blaming Transocean, the Swiss company who owns the rig, and then Haliburton is being blamed. Also, our government agency, Minerals Management is coming into the criticism. All four are involved and pointing fingers at one another.
If the oil gets into our marshlands and wetlands and spawning grounds it will take years, if ever, to recuperate.

Unfortunately you know how this goes, rounds of finger pointing while no one does anything productive. Then come the lawsuits. No corporate or government entity seems to really care about what is being done to the fragile environment.

Nice portrait Madame President.

The solution to this will NOT come from corporate board rooms or government hand-wringers. The answers will come from folks with vision and spirit... let's get barges with bales of bagasse out to those islands this week.

You have my vote. How about Dictator or Queen. Lets get congress out of the mix.
Cindi Smith13-May-2010 11:32

It would be a better place if you were in charge! And it's wonderful portrait, filled with spirit and energy.

They should listen to you Coleen before its too late!

I'm for you Coleen. I spent 35 years working for major oil companies and can attest to the fact there is only one thing they truly care about. . . .$$$$$$$$$. Trust me, they will walk away from all this asap and the people who care for the environment will be left with the real, long-term clean-up.

If it were up to me, you would have been in charge years ago! As it is all the finger pointing could just as well be toward the politicians as CEO's as they are all are made of the same stuff that comes out of the rear end of a bull!

Sorry Coleen but it just aggravates me no end, the politicians blame others when they could have solved most problems years ago but they just wont work together. I don't know what happened, I know it wasn't planned, but I'm sure it could have been prevented!

Your looking real good here, when I first saw the thumbnail I thought you were on a ship!

Sock it to 'em Coleen!

Go get 'um Coleen! I saw part of the hearing and it looked more like Curly, Larry & Moe - each pointing the finger at someone else and no one taking responsibility (including our Congress overseers). I'm so disgusted with it all. What I want to know is why weren't these questions asked before they started this well? Three months for a new drill to connect to it is the dumbest backup plan I have ever heard of!!!!!! Sorry for the rant but...
laine12-May-2010 21:33
Clearly they need someone concerned about the environment & not their dollars...go get em, Coleen!!

Good to see you Coleen. I certainly understand your frustration, sometimes you just want to shake the higher powers. I hope all works out and they get that spill under control before it does any more damage!
