Tri-Colored Heron in Breeding Feathers and Colors

Southeast Louisiana

All of the birds in the area where the oil from the well explosion will settle, some 210,000 gallons a day, will be affected. Even though the herons nest in trees, they must go in the water to fish and they will get coated with oil and also eat food that has been contaminated by the oil.
The vegetation, shrubs and trees will be affected by the oil. It is a catastrophe that will affect this area for years to come. The shrimp, crab, oyster and fish spawning grounds will be destroyed.
Louisiana supplies 90 per cent of the seafood to the nation. Fishermen will lose their livelihood and restaurant and restaurant workers will suffer. It is a wide spreading, enormous, man-made disaster. The people who own the well say that it may take weeks to stop the flow of oil from the well into the Gulf of Mexico.

Beautiful Heron, Coleen. The oil spill is something we will all pay for one way or another.

The picture is amazing. The oil spill makes me very angry and very sad for these noble creatures.

Nice image Coleen, but the oil spill is indeed a disaster. Hopefully they can find a way to mitigate the damage and injury to the fauna and wildlife.

This spill is just unacceptable. I can't believe that in 2010 we are going through another major oil spill with catastrophic results :-(
