The New Orleans Southern Yatch Club is the second oldest in the United States.
The first Clubhouse was built in the 1800's and was in good stead until World War II when lack of care caused deterioration. It was torn down shortly after the end of the War and a new one was completed.
During Hurricane Katrina the Clubhouse caught fire and burned to the ground, thought to be caused by the force of the tidal surge breaking gas pipes. It was the first bad incident I heard on the radio during the hurricane; little did I know it was minor compared to the rest.
Four years later, the third Clubhouse is completed and ready for dedication
