Mississippi River is Rising and Rushing on Its Way to Lake Pontchartrain May 2009

Bonnet Carre' Spillway

River water began flowing through the locks (structure on left) on Sunday afternoon, May 10, and by Monday morning, May 11, 2009 it had already begun its journey to Lake Pontchartrain. Some of the sand haulers were scurrying to move their equipment as the water got nearer to it. The herons and egrets have already found the rushing water and are hunting for fish.

Nice to know some creatures benefit from the high water.
