Once a thriving sugar cane plantation, Laura always was under the care of a woman manager. It is named Laura for the last woman who owned it.
During the past two decades it was bought and restored by a corporation of preservationists.
In 2004 a fire destroyed the lovely gallery and kitchen at the back of the house. Restoration took almost a year, just in time for Hurricane Katrina to come along and peel off some of the new roof. Through it all Laura has kept her grace and dignity.
