Place D'Armes

New Orleans Riverfront of Jackson Square

This cannon was aimed at the British ships coming up the Mississippi River during the Battle of New Orleans. Under the command of General Andrew Jackson the Americans defeated the British. The cannon is displayed just outside of Jackson Square which bears a statue of General Jackson on his horse.

It's fascinating to think of all the people who worked on this and sweated over it and shot it and cursed it and hauled it around. What a piece of history.

I remember this from the last time I was in New Orleans, the dramatic sky makes a great background, well done.

A dramatic victory after the war was already over!

We toured the Hermitage outside of Nashville this summer, learning about General/President Jackson. Old Hickory devoted most of his life in service of te countrt

I can only wonder if the Baratarian, Dominique You, was manning the cannon as the British Ships approached.

I love the photo.
