Hidden Away in the Cypress Trees

Manchac, Louisiana

The man who owns the house in the foreground is the grandson of the once-keepers of the Pass Manchac Lighthouse (established before the Civil War out on the Lake.) The Lighthouse was taken over by the Coast Guard in the 1900's and is now in a terrible state of disrepair. Mr. Allen was born in the house when it was at a location where the interstate is presently located. The house was moved to this location along the waterway. He has restored it beautifully, using the natural cypress of the area.
I found it heartwarming that the little solar powered lamps on the porch light the way for boaters as they enter this waterway just as the Lighthouse of his ancestors helped boaters find their way.
