BURLINGTON, NC- Mrs. Janie Carter Smith, 95, of Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Alamance, died at 2:55 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999.
A native of Rockingham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Johnny Grover Smith and the daughter of Mr. Winston Carter and Mrs. Ida Sue Crews Carter, both deceased. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Louise Durham of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Lois Kinney of Burlington; two stepsons, Mr. John T. Smith of Halifax and Mr. Woodrow Smith of Elon College; three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Smith of Martinsville, Va., Mrs. Daisy Cooke of Eden, and Mrs. Lillian Soots of Kernersville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rich & Thompson Chapel of Burlington by the Rev. Robert Sargent and Mr. Philip Bomberger. Burial will be at Lawson Cemetery in Eden.
The family will be at Rich & Thompson Mortuary from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday morning.
