David Lloyd George

Ffestiniog Railway

We went on the Ffestiniog narrow gauge (2ft) railway. It was opened in 1836 to bring roofing slate from the mines, at 710ft, 13 miles down to the sea.

This is one of the Fairlie double engines, David Lloyd George, built in 1992.
It is a copy of an earlier loco on the line Merddin Emrys that was built in 1879 and is still running.

The other end of the loco is a duplicate of this end. It has swivelling power bogies
0-4-0 0-4-0 which gave it great power to haul heavy trains with a single crew.
