A "Weeper" from the tomb of Isabella of Bourbon, c 1475-76

attributed to Jan Borman II (active 1475-1520)

Wood

Isabella of Bourbon, wife of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, died in 1465.
Their daughter, Mary, built a funeral monument for her in the abbey of Saint Michael
in Antwerp. The tomb was surrounded by 24 figures of mourning family members and
ancestors, known as weepers (pleurants). The 10 figures in the museum are all that remain.
