"The Wave", the twisted and polished "Coyote Buttes", was what brought me to this part of Utah. Every day only 20 permits are issued to visit the northern area of the park where the Wave is located. 10 permits are issued online, and people need to reserve up to 6 months in advance. The other 10 are issued daily at the BLM office in Kanab with a lottery drawing among walk-ins. Luckily I got the permit from the drawing with other 9 people. The Wave is a small area, so I could understand the quota system. It is a 6 mile round trip hike to the Wave on slickrocks and sandy washes, and I have heard stories of people getting lost in this wilderness area, but the trail is well marked with carins I think.
