Best time on the bike: Too many – any time in good company, any time on Diablo, any time it is sunny and clear out, any time I feel fast, any time I can help a teammate in a race.

Worst time on the bike: anytime I have felt like I am in over my head on the mountain bike, anytime that involved crashing. And maybe the time I had to ride on the freeway in the dark with only one contact lens. Or maybe Kearny Park 2006 – 30s, hail, rain, wind – I was so cold crossing the finish line that my hands couldn’t move to shift and my legs refused to turn faster than about 12 rpm.

Favorite post-ride food: big cushy burrito that doubles as a pillow, tamarindo, anything and everything pomegranate-related, sea salt and vinegar kettle chips, tall glass of milk
