Kathleen Farley

Race Category: Cyclocross B; Road 4
Residenze: recent transplant from Aptos to San Diego, CA – I have lived on 3 continents and 10 cities or towns, but this move – NorCal to SoCal – is the one that feels most like landing on another planet!
Résumé: 2nd (Women’s C) in 2005 Surf City Cyclocross Series. Those races showed me how simultaneously fun and painful bike racing can be….and they’re the reason I’m a Velo Bella!
Bikes I ride: Cervelo P3, Trek 2000
Bikes I want: I recently got the Cervelo and discovered life with good components, so now I’m dreaming of a new road bike, but don’t know which one yet. I borrowed a Rock Lobster for the first cross race I did and absolutely loved it….but for now my cross future still depends on borrowed bikes!
How I support by Bike Habit: Assistant professor at San Diego State University (employment with Cal State might explain why the new road and cross bikes are still just a dream).
Best Time on the Bike: Any day in the mountains, as long as there are nice climbs and I’m away from traffic.
Worst Time on the Bike: Watching my dad crash in front of me at the end of what had been a great ride. The only lucky part was that we were within a couple miles of Stanford Hospital and an ambulance arrived in minutes (though, with all that anxiety, I ended up riding to the emergency room faster than they drove there!). Fortunately, he recovered from the fractured hip AND the misguided idea that he was too old to keep riding.
Favorite Post-Ride Food: Salt and vinegar potato chips and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale……and chocolate never hurts.
Grab Bag: I started riding in the winter of 2003, when I got my first road bike. Now it seems strange that there was ever a time when I didn’t ride a bike.
