Best Time on Bike: Won the cat 4 Tour of the Hilltowns in MA in 2002 (and there were about 30 other cat 4 women!) - NEVER have I felt like that, and I suspect it was a freak thing and never again will I feel that effortless on the bike. Climbing up the first enormous hill, I noticed the group was all panting heavily, and I was barely breathing. I broke away without even trying, and looked back hoping someone was coming with me. I rode 7 miles alone until a group of 3 caught me, but on the final climb at about 60 miles, I managed to pull away and win. My friends were just as dumbfounded as I was. Ah, to relive that day....
Worst Time on Bike: "Cross County Challenge" - I've done plenty of centuries, even back to back ones, raced the Appalachian and Middlebury Gaps, but this 70 mile ride on ONE very hilly road (Rte 20 in central NY)(100 ft of climbing per mile), out and back is mentally the most challenging ride that our local club offers. Twice I've finished if not in tears, then nearly in tears. I HATE this ride.
Post ride food: McDonald's milkshake, or on the flip side, my own smoothie made from frozen berries, chocolate soy milk and soy powder.
