If you're still awake and still viewing these pictures in order, you might think that we only flew in typhoons. Fear not, we flew through our share of hurricanes, too. This particular one was about 900 miles southeast of Hawaii, which means we had to fly about 3 hours just to get there, fly the storm, then fly 3 hours to get back. Flying in and out of Hawaii was rough, but somebody had to do it! Above, you can see an example of a well formed eyewall. Also, notice the little rainbow just in front of our engine. |
