Family and friends of a Dorchester County Deputy, killed while on duty, are saying their final farewells. Corporal Mike Deese and his K-9 partner Sonja, were killed Friday while on patrol on I-26.
The Funeral ended just before Noon. Cameras were not allowed inside, but the sanctuary at the Faith Assembly of God was filled with family, friends and hundreds of officers from across the lowcountry.
The Highway Patrol and Dorchester County Deputies led Corporal Mike Deese's body into the church as with officers standing in formation saluting.
Dozens of K9 officers and their dogs filed in this morning. They're representaitves from Orangeburg and Florence to Walterboro to honor Cpl. Deese and his partner Sonja. Officers are wearing black over their badges. The Faith Christan School is flying its flag at half staff. Deese and Sonja were both killed in a head on collision Friday evening on I-26 near Harleyville. The driver of the truck which hit Deese, Christopher Burnham, also was killed. Most of the officers here don't know Deese, but he's still a brother to them.
