Nope, no strings. It's just balanced that way due to where the center of gravity is on the fork/spoon arrangement.

To make it even more fun, you can light the tip of the match and let it burn until it reaches the edge of the glass, where the flame will go out by itself. The whole thing will continue to stay balanced. I didn't do it for the photo because I didn't want ash and gunk falling in my drink. *grin*
