Nauset Surf

The recent Northeaster produced some rather dramatic surf on the east facing coastal regions of New England. Here are some pictures from the Orleans area on Cape Cod, right about at high tide. It was a murky rainy day (temperature about 40F, winds 35 to 40 MPH), and I had to post process the heck out of some of the images to get anything useful. Most of the photos were taken facing south to southeast, since the rain and spray were blowing out of the northeast.

Those of you familiar with Nauset Beach may be asking, "Where's the beach??" The combination of high tide, plus the on shore wind, plus a new moon, combined to produce extremely high tides. The surf was reaching right up to the dunes, some of which were further eroded. The National Seashore folks already are planning the new parking area, further inland. I hope they will allow that little clam shack to relocate. Best onion rings on the cape.

If you have any questions about using a clear filter to protect your lens, see the first image. I was able to take the filter off, rinse it off with fresh water, clean it with the proper tissue and cleaner, and it was good as new.

#768 is an original image. The rest have been processed.
