Canon/Nikon Combo with the Optix V5+ AF Adapter

Here's my Nikon f/1.4 50mm from around 1970, mounted on my XSi (450). The Optix V5+ allows me to adjust the focus correction factor so that the body's focus indicator will function correctly. There's a caption under each telling what's going on. All the pictures are full resolution, unmodified.

The overall conclusion is that the focus correctionadapter works, but other tests prove that my much maligned 18-55mm Canon kit zoom is not that bad when compared to the Nikon piece. But it's not f/1.4, which is handy sometimes.

It was an interesting experiment, suggested only because I had all this old Nikon stuff laying around. I'll probably use it once in a while.

Added note: I also tried my 135mmf/2.8 with the adapter, and got similar results. It ended up using the same focus calibration number as the f/1.4.

I compared it to images shot with my 55 to 250mm kit zoom, set to around 135mm, wide open. Same shots, minutes apart. Same result. The Canon zoom produced images not unlike the old Nikon piece.

Now, neither of my Nikons were top of the line pro grade in their day (the 70's), and they certainly seemed OK for all my slides back then, but my two kit zooms certainly outdo them now.

Final conclusion: I'll stick with new Canon lenses. I eventually bought the Canon 50mm f/1.8, AKA the nifty 50. It's not "L glass", but its a bargain at that price.
