This could be the last day we get to interact with the children. The activity day was planned for the upper primary children. However, the primary 6 children were going to have their examinations on saturday and they could not join us in the games. They were my students and it was a pity. Since the secondary school students did not come for the games too, I took the opportunity to take lots of photos of children having fun in the games we had planned for them.

One of the aims of this project is to teach the children about conservation and preserving the natural environment. All the water in the village will eventually flow down towards Erhai Lake and we had to teach them about rubbish which were disposed along the drains. Therefore, for the two activity days, we arranged for the students to pick litter along the roads around the village. They were so enthusiastic about picking litter and not one of them had a grouchy face complaining about the rubbish they had to pick up.

For the indoor games, we taught the children hop-scotch, five stones and a drawing game which the children had to guess what is being drawn. I do not think the children knew hop-scotch, and I could see that the children were really enjoying themselves. Let's hope that they will continue to play the games we taught them after we had left the village.

In the evening, it was time to return the treat back to the teachers and village representatives. The cook gave us such a sumptuous meal yesterday and we were worried that we could not get back the same standard for them. We were lacking in resources; we did not have enough ingredients, stoves and utensils. One option was to hire a chef and cook everything for us, but that would be rather insincere as our main prupose was to let them taste some Singaporean dishes. Well, I brought some packets of hainanese chicken rice flavouring, that would be one of the main dishes for them. Another main dish would be the fried rice which my admin team had been cooking for everyone. I got the hang of stirring the rice, frying the egg and adding in the ingredients, even though my tears kept flowing. Dessert would be green bean soup. At least we cooked some dishes for them, the rest of the dishes were catered.

Today will be the last evening in the village, I ran to the mountains one last time before going for dinner. I just like the feeling of stretching out my arms and breathing in the fresh air. I could feel the tension escaping from my body as I was doing this. At night, Ivan suggested sleeping out and watching the stars out in the field. I thought it was a great idea since it was our last night there. However, due to some reasons, he was not able to make it and only Kai Fen, Shihui, Yusen and I accompanied me to sleep in the field. We had a nice chat in the cold weather but all of them left the field a few hours later. After they left, I started to reflect on my life, about the experiences since young, and the time I spent in this village. Trust me, I really cried, I missed the place, even after 1 month later that I am writing this. I started to compare my childhood days, did I have the kind of laughter that children had when I was young? Was I really enjoying myself in school? Did I have the kind of friends they had? I wonder...
