Images taken on a 2 week photo trip with Ralph Paonessa (who leads Photo Workshops/Adventures) and 6 other photographers in January 2011 to the Falkland Islands. I took over 7,000 photographs plus some video so there are many more that I like but here are some 174 favorites that I hope you will enjoy. I will probably add more as I get more time but this is a good overview of the wonderful wildlife I encountered there. I flew from Boston to Santiago, Chile where I met the others and after 2 nights there we flew to Mt. Pleasant and the capital of the Falklands - Stanley. From there took 8 seater planes to 3 different islands - Carcass, Saunders (where we spent 4 nights in the Portacabin at the Neck (our most "primitive" lodging and then 2 nights at the Settlement (farm), and Bleaker - and then back to Stanley where we spent a day (in the rain) photographing 1,000 King Penguins at Volunteer Point (a 3 hour Land Rover ride from our hotel). See the last images of the King Penguins photographed in the rain (bet you can't tell it's raining) at Volunteer Point on our last day of photography -- and I eventually did ruin my camera after these pictures were taken but it was worth it!
An absolutely fabulous trip!! I was in penguin heaven and this is a very special and magical place. Ralph was an excellent leader we all lucked out with a very friendly and easy going group of photographers who all got along very well (see last image in front of our hotel in Stanley before leaving for home). All images taken with the Canon 40D and the Canon 100-400 IS lens.

2011-12 - still working on more images for an eventual self-published book. After the image of our photo group in Stanley on our last day are additional images I've worked on since originally posting images in this gallery so they are not in order as the others are before the group shot. I will be adding even more.
