October2005 gallery: Trip to Norfolk, VA. Weather was rainy, foggy, damp & dreary. Norfolk photos: I adjusted photos very little with Polaroid PhotoLab, since my HP laptop (for travel) hasn't suitable display for editing. These are relatively dark; but then checked on home CRT monitor: colors, tones, and exposures are ~accurate to scenes.
At home, Washington, DC, area photos I try to process with CRT monitor. If I modify saturation on HP laptop, I'll often end up too saturated, as in the 396 to 423 series (viewing on another monitor). RAW advantage is users can repeatedly modify easily and without re-compression loss, such as with JPEGs.

Update on processing: I now use (April 11, 2008 release) Sigma Photo Pro version 2.5 OR the Dec 7, 2007 Sigma Photo Pro version 2.4 with x530 RAW files. Also the JPEG extraction tool herehttp://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1027&message=27814187 works fine on x530 RAW files. Recent example of an extracted JPEG in my DP1 experiments gallery.

I believe the Polaroid PhotoLab is v.1 just because its the Polaroid version.... Sigma PhotoPro is older, has had at least 2 versions. I find the software programs extremely similar, I don't think you'd find an advantage using SPP with the x530 files. I use Polaroid with Polaroid and Sigma with Sigma, and keep the RAWs in separate folders; just to keep things as simple as I can. But shoot RAW! You'll have much more processing flexibility, especially with white balance, than using JPEG.

I've finally ordered a X530 which I found for $126 brand new (shipping included). I'm very excited. Thanks again for your e-mails and your constant dedication.

P.S. Ref. RAW, as far as I understand from the x530 users on Amazon..."The real power of the Foveon imaging comes when you start working with the raw X3F files - so I wanted to let current and future X530 owners that it is worth the time to go to the Sigma Japan website. The software that ships with the X530 is "Polaroid PhotoLab", but it is a renamed version of the same software that ships with the high end Sigma SD9 and SD10 digital SLR's with Foveon imaging sensors. However, the version packed with my camera was version 1.0; version 2.1 of Sigma's PhotoPro software is available for download on their website - sigmaphoto.com under "support"."

Thanks Vincenzo for your comments. I purchased my x530 fromhttp://www.polaroid2go.com but they may not sell/ship internationally. Thus far I've shot RAW and processed through PolaroidPhotoLab to JPEGs for online or to print. My 8"x10" print of backlit (cropped) Capitol is quite nice. I've used the different setting modes, ie landscape, macro, night, which control aperture/exposure time settings. The camera doesn't have direct manual settings apparently, just through these modes. Where did you got that camera?I'm looking for it in Europe but I can't find anywhere.
Very nice pictures, I like The one titled "waterfront in rain", very very beautiful.
