Emperor feeding 2

BUTTERFLY WORLD

This chappie is an Emperor butterfly, although not showing his true colours in these shots. The upper wings are a magnificent electric blue. Unfortunately, they always rest with their wings folded, with occasional flaps to open and close them. They do this VERY quickly and my reactions were never quick enough to catch them open, although I do have a large collection of pictures with the wings closed!! I tried to get one in flight, where they look superb, but again they fly quickly and the light levels in Butterfly World mean lowish shutter speeds. I also have a large collection of blue blurs and streaks.

That said, these do still look good on the underside and they do sit nice and still while feeding. This one is also particularly brave (or hungry) as it simply leaned back a bit, when I stuck my lens an inch from its face.

other sizes: small medium original auto
