Sandhill Crane Family

Bosque del Apache

Wasn't it nice of these cranes to pose for a family portrait? Cranes do travel together as family units,
often in pairs or threes, with their kid in tow. Sometimes two or three families will fly together.

Beautifully composed. Very much like the way the red eyes and foreheads contrast and pop against the blue waters in the background. Michael.

Fine shot, Sandi. ~V~ The Australian Brolga (crane) also has strong red marking around the head, though not in the pattern shown here.

Super shot Sandi. It is the Whooping Crane that is endangered, and the Polar Bear is still hunted if you have enough money, such is our species pea brains....I would put the hunters out there on the polar ice and give the bears rifles.

In answer to Steve's question, I don't believe the sandhill cranes are considered an endangered species, but then, aren't we all an endangered species these days? Like our poor polar bears friends, that I just read may not survive another generation.
Guest 22-May-2008 15:39
Nice composition Sandi. Are they an endangered species like the Black Neck Cranes of Bhutan/Tibet?
Cindi Smith22-May-2008 15:29
They are beautiful birds...gorgeous lighting in this capture too!
