Black-throated Blue Warbler
This male blue sprite popped right down onto the boardwalk late one quiet afternoon, after the crowds had left at Magee.
For me this one of the best of all the colorful warbler crowd, with the lemon-headed Prothonotary Warbler being the only one that gives it a good run for its money. I desperately wanted this one out of my spring at Magee Marsh in Ohio as they are rare on Upper Texas Coast (due to their usual spring migration route being Caribbean, rather than trans-Gulf). However, to my surprise I got more than a few shots at it in High Island anyway as they had a great spring for them (and a few others too), so I chased them around for four days before finally nailing it on my final day on May 3. Only to leave the next day for Ohio where they were a daily feature for the most of the time with over 10 seen on one day! Still all the fun is in the chase, and I can now say I have seen on the Upper Texas Coast!
