Next to finding an interesting subject in good light an attractive background is the next thing I look for. In this example, the out of focus background as well as the color complements the subject nicely.

An ordinary or common subject photographed this way can become an image you are proud of and one that maybe marketable. To make a photograph like the one above requires a telephoto lens with a fast aperture (no slower than f5.6, preferably faster). If you are not making images of distant subjects such as sports or wildlife look for a fast normal or wide angle to normal zoom lens with a f2.8 or faster aperture.

I purchase all my equipment by mail order from B&H Photo in NYC. I have been a happy customer of theirs for 25 years. Their customer service and return policy is the best in the industry.

If you need help choosing lenses please feel free to call or email me.
