Chandelier Crop

This is a 2000x1500 pixel crop of the previous image sized down to half, i.e. to 1000x750 if you click on "original" size. Think of it as 2x2 binning if you click on "original" below. I turned it around so that you can better appreciate why Arabs call it "Thuraya" (chandelier). To get good alignment between the first frame and the last (2.5 hours later), I found that I had to use both "Translation" and "Rotation". I had used just the CGE's Polar Alignment routine and I had not attempted drift alignment (actually never have). The field-derotation in post-processing seems to work very well. Next project will be to compare autoguiding at 4000mm, f11 using the 500mm/8 Little Joey as the guiding OTA as against off-axis guiding. It is of course much easier to acquire a guide star using the separate OTA; on the other hand with everything so sensitive at 4000mm focal length the guide-star acquisition battle may well be worth the great deal of extra bother. Next slides show what I am pursuing as a set-up for off-axis guiding.

other sizes: small medium large original auto
