Completed Perch. Note louvres right across for ventilation. This was a critical decision. To make a sealed, air-conditioned enclosure or a well-ventilated one? The sealed version would be much more complicated, and even with reasonable heat insulation, would still require some $500 annually just for electricity to keep the inside temperature reasonable. The chosen, well-ventilated design has the major disadvantage that all equipment will have to be protected from dust and also the very rare rainstorm. It's a nuisance having to drape covers over all the equipment at 3 o'clock in the morning but certainly a much simpler project. Another major advantage is that the equipment is always at shade-ambient temperature, so no cool-down (or warm-up) period is ever required.
