Ian is the son of David Fisher and Liz Fisher (née Topps). David and Liz got married soon after our BSc's in Physics at Birmingham (1966). Ian also went through Physics at Birmingham for his undergraduate studies and is currently Professor in Applied Physics and Director of Geballe Laboratory for Advanced Materials at Stanford University. Soud is my 3rd child (only son) and he did his BSc in Physics at McGill University in Montreal. He managed to secure a travel/research grant of some kind for his first MSc semester to be spent at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Washington and at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. So our two kids met on the other side of the world 55 years after we three met as freshers... Small world.
