Living in the inner city neighborhoods of NYC is often
a frustrating, unpleasant experience. I know, I did it
for over twenty years. If you are in a poor country,
in the woods somewhere, believe me when I tell you that
your quality of life might actually be better.
I'm not talking about money; I'm talking about family,
nature, and life. You can't replace those things with
money and toys. You can't compare going out and walking
freely, and safely, with having to look over your shoulder
all the time, and locking yourself home after dark.
To all the good folks of the inner city looking to make
that move forward, I leave you with this song that used
to play on the FM radio on our old boombox in that old,
humble abode:
"Don't wish it away,
Don't look at it like it's forever,
Between you and me I could honestly say,
That things can only get better"
-Elton John, "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" 1983
