At the time I took this photo, this young man was
literally reeling from a broken heart. One observant
viewer noted that he looked "sad" in this photo, and
indeed he was. Nothing hurts quite as much as unrequited
love. Don't worry though, the young man has bounced back
strong, and is very happy now, determined not to make the
same mistakes. This is the danger of unrequited love; the
cycle usually goes on over, and over again, sometimes for years
until one realizes it, and takes steps to end it. This one is
dedicated to all you broken hearted folks, I've felt the pain:
"Love, what have you done, oh wow,
I was sure up to now, that she was a friend,
I stayed till the end (don't be a fool again),
I once believed that love was fair, but I don't anymore,
She said I'm a bore, my heart hit the floor (don't be a fool again)
Each time around, I tell myself, it's the game of love,
Ignore the signs, and risk it all, in the name of love,
Well I've decided I can't let nobody hurt me again,
So I'll say till the end, I just don't want to be a fool,
Said I don't want to be a fool, ever again..."
-Luther Vandross, 1991
Musical Note: Despite it's synth-popish arrangement,
this song has some of the most truthful, heart-cutting lyrics
that actually gets better as the song goes on. Simple, but exquisite
lyrics that truly describe the feelings of someone who has gone through
this cycle of bad love. The song is also saved by the superb vocals,
and phrasing of late, great Luther Vandross. Luther knew how to get
to your heart without screaming and yelling. Those who have not felt
the pain may dismiss this song. But for those who know the hurt, this
is a "must-listen" and I assure you that every word will be felt.
