Hand Feeding the Hummers

Pine, Louisiana

Impossible? Not really. Once birds are used to feeding from a feeder, replace feeder with a small plastic cap of sugar water.
They'll quickly learn to feed from the cap. Then sit quietly with the cap in your hand and after a few minutes the hummers will perchingn on your fingers to feed.

That is immense. Something I wasn't expecting to see - ever.

How wonderful to see the hummers
"eating out of your hands" I love these little creatures. Another bitty bird I am fond of is the kinglet, hard to catch sight of but teeny tiny wonderful little guys.

We hand fed hummingbirds in Jamaica about 25 years ago. It was at a bird sanctuary in Anchovie, Jamaica, owned by a lady named Miss Salmon. (I'm not making this up.) they would fly and land on an outstretched finger and drink from a small airline whiskey bottle full of sugar water. There were two kinds of hummers, lyre tails and another small red one. It was an amazing experience. I can see that you are having a wonderful experience too. Thanks for sharing this.

Hi I received 2 different emails with your husbands pictures of you and the humming birds. I found your web site from the Urban Legends Referenc web site. I live in Ontario Canada.
I also enjoyed looking at the other pictures on your web site. Was really impressed by them.
Will let some of my friends know about your website.
Take care

Well, I just hate it when Sam leaves out the part in his description of this experience that I am just magical. :-)
