This is one of the crown jewels of DeKalb County's
forest preserves. The main trail runs west, parallel
Hwy 64, from Annie Glidden Road along an old 19th century
railway. This photo was taken near the parking lot after a
January dusting of light snow.
The prairie section is on the right of the trail. A hike along
the trail through the woods leads to wooded swamp habitat and also
a large cattail marsh with a wood deck observation platform.
The preserve is surrounded by farm fields, so birds and other wildlife
tend to be concentrated in the area. As a result, this is a prime location
for birders, especially during spring and fall migrations.
