Closed for the last 22 years, the plant was constructed 100 years ago. It created power for the Chicago
Ottawa and Peoria Electric Railway, which provided passenger service for the Illinois River Valley
area from 1904 until 1934 when the entire line was abandoned during the Great Depression.
