Dieu bénisse la Sainte Eglise Catholique, la seule a nous montrer le chemin de la sagesse dans ce monde en abandon. Vive le Saint Père Benoit XVI! Vive la continuité pour des siècles et des siècles!
You were in Rome at a very historic time. Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos with the rest of the world. I only smirk at those who leave unflattering comments pertaining to John Paul II as they have yet to achieve moral and spiritual equilibrium. As a Lithuanian I admired the Pope's stance against atheistic communism. His actions led to the crumbling of the Iron Curtain and offered precious freedom for millions. I will miss him dearly. He left a lasting mark on humanity.

Judging by the face of the pontiff, it appears J.P. is telling us something, namely, "This is what death really looks like." That is to say, apart from heavily made-up, overly preserved existence, he chose to be only lightly embalmed, if at all. Proof of this exists in Archbishop Piero Marini's statement that moments before the funeral begins the Pope's face wil be covered with a veil. He's shown us what struggling with old age and infirmity looks like, and now death, as in a posthumous lesson on the reality of existence.
