The type of image I really enjoy seeing.

Mikel - that is exactly why i took this photo...because it is simply "so french"! i have some images of other children playing with different coloured boats and wearing different coloured outfits, and they aren't half as expressive.

I don't know, but the photo of the boy with the boat in the watter makes me think too.
Perhaps it is not a complicated image, there is not too much of scale incongruity so you know... if I am not wrong... that this is a play boat.
In any case, what captured my eye was... How French is this photo!...
One one hand, the abstraction is succesfull since it gives us what we need for this image (or at least what I needed for it)
On one hand we have the pants of the boy that have the french flag colours (red, blue and white)
On the other spot of interest we have the boat that it is an other patriotical event. We have the red and blue sails and with the light gray of the watter we can think of it in white so that wold be again like the French flagg.
For the rest, with the swetter folded up to the wrist and with the stik in his hand he makes me think of a sailor too. ;)

Every single shot in this entire album simply blows me away. You don't just photograph Ruthie, you capture. Your pictures are poetry to the eyes. Am,azing stuff, and I'm sure the stepping stones to a very fruitful future for you. You're a star!

the colours are what attracted me to this particular boy and boat. there were several children there but my photos of them don't have even half the same effect. the colours are so french, the boat is like the french flag and it is reflected in the boy's trousers. what you said about having done what he can, is my thought too. he has done all he can and now he has to stand and wait and see what happens. the boy's watch too - this was like seeing something from a different time (it IS, i suppose!) and the watch to me therefore seemed totally incongruous. you know what i think about time, Phil! having it there just seemed totally irrelevant. he has it almost behind his back as though yeh, it really doesn't matter.

The colors of France are red, white and blue, and two of those colors are appropriately represented in the sails of the little boat. The master of this tiny craft has done all could to get his vessel off and running. His hands are now helpless -- he must wait for the wind to do his bidding for him. There is something quite naive and charming about this image, Ruthie -- maybe it's the whole idea of just standing around in this day and age and watching a toy boat sail, and in those very strange looking trousers, too. It is an image out of time and out of place, and by abstracting the young sailor with your vantage point and frame and abstracting the boat with your focus, you will provoke the imaginations of all who come to this image.
