July 26: Promises Made, Promises Kept Redux

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Yesterday IMWTK * what happened! As Herb has pointed out to me on more than one occasion, Microdrive cards have moving parts (and are thus prone to failure) while Compact Flash cards do not. Yesterday, for the second time, one of my Microdrive’s failed and I lost the images I had on it.

Today I ordered two San Disk 4 Gig CF cards. I have a 1 Gig CF, and I’ll use it until they come.

Today’s picture is just to demonstrate, as promised, the vaunted Canon f/2.8 70-200 L lens. The top shot at 200 mm and the bottom one at 70mm taken from the same location.

*Inquiring Minds Wanted To Know

Canon EOS 5D ,Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
1/1000s f/6.3 at 200.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Nice shot. Microdrives are also generally slower than flash-based cards. In any case I try to keep the moving parts at a minimum..

Absolutely my favorite lens. For everything. It's really hard to screw up a picture with this lens. And it builds up your biceps :) It's all good.

Don't forget speed when you're buying the next cards. Size isn't everything!

iPod's carry these things. Twice I have had to replace them! You have this set up as if there is someone behind the camera taking aim with a bb gun.. LOL

The 2.8 70-200 is amazing, some of the best money this household has ever spent.

Looovvvve that lens! When I use mine it makes me feel like I could pass for a real photographer! (Can't let the camera hang from around my neck, though, without making the men around me a bit self conscious, especially with the sun shade attached...)

Every microdrive should have a bullseye painted on it for those special occasions...:) The 70-200 is an excellent lens. It's the only lens that I would never be willing to give up. That lens mated with your camera gives you about the best images that can be had in the zoom category.

A fantastic lens. I have a Sand Disk 4GB card in my 5D and it always comes through.

Nice bokah, lacks a little saturation, boost the contrast. Will all print it out and use it for a new type of dart board. only CF. only CF. only CF. Bullseye.

Robin, I can lend you that Beretta and a few silver bullets to get even with the drive!

royalld26-Jul-2006 18:55
4 MEG? I did you mean 4 GIG CF Cards?
I see you have the old Microdrive out on the fence for target practice.
