We have been in the Rotorua area all day. The morning was spent in a Waimangu geothermal valley that most recently transformed in a major way when the Takawera Volcano erupted with devastating effect in 1886.
Part of the tour was on a small boat on Lake Rotoahana formed at that time. Here I am guiding the boat safely through waters that steamed and boiled! Several scenes from that setting are in the NZ gallery.
This afternoon it was the Maori Cultural center for a fascinating look at their arts and crafts.
Tonight we will return there for dinner. My group has appointed me Chief (only the men were allowed to vote), and I am charged with greeting the fierce Maori warrior who will meet us at the entrance.
LOL.
