Menacing in its death rattle is this bold image, confronting the viewer with the bloom's ultimate demise. The spiky shadows lead the eye to the source of a tight tension from which the Medusa-like petals emerge. The range of colors, with a diagonal sweep of dark to light, ends up with a touch of green, a reminder of birth, new growth, the eternal cycle.
