Melanchoky, anything with a drooping American flag, an incomplete iron fence with raindrops, a tilting post, and only one tomsto indistinct, hardly there. Robert Frank includes flags like this, but not in a tomato patch. It is a perfect 4th of July image for a country facing our current political, economic, and social problems. There is yearning here for something better. It is a Tallent image. No one can do it better.
