Shark's Teeth

The teeth below were collected over the course of a year or so along the Western shores of the Chesapeake Bay that have washed out from Calvert Cliffs. The teeth here belonged to various shark species that lived during the Miocene epoch, approximately 10 - 15 million years ago, when the East Coast of North America was covered by a warm shallow sea. Various geological factors allowed the shark teeth (as well as other aquatic and land animal bone and teeth material) to become fossilized and ultimately released as the action of the Bay works to erode the cliffs.
