Thwaistesara (syn. Potinara) Elaine Taylor 'Krull-Smith' FCC/AOS

The original plant won the Miyamoto award in mid 90s.
Finally, Krull-Smith Orchids released this wonderful mericlones several years ago.

I was hesitant to buy without seeing the the population of the real plants. After seeing at least 30 mericlones of this plant during the 19th WOC, I was fully convinced that the mericlones will be able to produce exactly the same flower quality as that of the original plant that won the Miyamoto award. Some of the mericlones are even better than the original plant (see the photo above). By the way, the real color is more like burgundy or ruby (not really this red).

Note: It is not uncommon that people manipulate the shape and the arrangement of the flowers in order to get an award. This is especially true with cattleya hybrids.

Nikon D70
1/60s f/5.6 at 55.0mm full exif
