The wind whistled and propelled a driving rain in the pitch black night. We rode nicely on a mooring ball in Vero Beach Harbor. Our dinghy (rigid bottom inflatable boat) was tied-up along side Shibumi. When I looked out to inspect it, I found the dinghy nearly filled with rainwater. Everything inside the dinghy was tied down, but was floating around. These inflatables are designed to float even when filled with water; but I could not sleep before bailing the water out. I was able to stay ahead of the pouring rain. When I returned to the dry sanctuary of the mothership there was no water in the dinghy. The following morning I had to bail it out again, but the bulk of the work was done the night before. |
