[EDIT - January 30th 2006]
During the summer of 2005 I was finally financially able to purchase a Digital SLR. A Canon Digital Rebel 300D ($550 used) with a Tamrom 28-105 IF lens ($105 new). Since then I haven't touched a film camera and rarely snapped any photos with my old Canon s20 digital point and shoot. I love this 300D and I'm still discovering how to use it. I'm just now getting into practicing with RAW mode.

I've also changed the way I post process. Although I use photoshop CS I have also been using Sony Vegas 5 (a video editing app) with Magic Bullet Editors to do my color grading on some photos. The only downside is that I can't use RAW images inside Vegas and the program can only support resolutions up to 2.7megapixels (it is meant for video afterall) but it's worth it at times. I haven't found as simple and elegant of an alternative yet. I wish Magic Bullet would make a photoshop plugin.

Hi my name is Mike. I started taking photos when I was in the tenth grade. I discovered my parents old Minolta SLR and took a photo class that year in high school. I've been shooting images ever since.

I got into digital photography about 4 years ago. I believe it was 1999. I had bought a Sony digital video camera and found myself using the meager 720x480 still photo function for a lot of web destined photos. The time saving, ease and low cost of shooting this way made my DV camera a real workhorse for my online ventures.

Around this time I also discovered the joys of slide film such as Fuji's Velvia with it's vivid color. But I had been strapped for cash and found myself borrowing lenses for my Nikon. For some reson I let my Nikon sit for the next two years before I even bothered to buy any lenses for it. The reason is probably because of the next paragraph.

Two years ago I bought an open box Canon S20 3.3 megapixel digital camera(what a mouth full). I used it here and there and it's always taken nice pictures but I was spending $12 per 70 shots on disposible batteries for it. It wasn't much cheaper then shooting film but at the time with my Minolta out of service and my Nikon lensless it was either that or any of the DV camera's I had owned. So I spent the money on batteries for it. It hasn't been until recently that I purchased a rechargable battery for it and have been using it all the time.

However there are still points in time where I choose to shoot film. My Nikon now has three lenses and is better capable of capturing an image the way I want it. But I've been so used to the ease of digital photography over the years that it's been hard to spend money on a roll of film and processing for it. So I still find myself picking up my S20 more often. I don't think it will be until i own an digital SLR that I'll find a true middle ground.

My galleries are a mixed bunch. Mostly snap shot work. I've been using it more to document my life then art. Though there are pieces of everything in here. Hope you find it interesting. Please leave me some feedback in my guestbook.

Welcome to my photo gallery. I've been wanting to put up my own gallery for a while now. But two things always stopped me. 1. Not having a reliable scanner to scan in my print work. 2. Not being able to find good free gallery software to put on my website. Well I bought a really nice flatbed scanner for $50 bucks and found pbase. Both of which have made a gallery finally possible. My slide photo work is still to come unfortunately. But I did find a place to scan those. For now though there is plenty to see. Remember to stop by my personal site as well when it's up at www.roxics.com. Thanks (Almost forgot, please sign my guest book here.)
