Chesapeake Chapter U.S. Lighthouse Society - 2008 Challenge

On Saturday, September 20, I worked at the Chapter's booth at Turkey Point, near North East, Maryland, greeting visitors who were taking the lighthouse challenge. The challenge was to visit 9 Maryland lighthouses and one lightship in two days. For many, just getting to Turkey Point was the biggest challenge - driving down one of Maryland's northern-most peninsulas, and then walking 8 tenths of a mile to the lighthouse! Once there, however, they tended to stay a while, enjoying the bay and river views from the cliffs, climbing to the top of the lighthouse, chatting with Christine and Tommy Cardaci (Lighthouse Hunters) or the Ham Radio operator, or browsing Turkey Point's gift shop. (To view a larger version of any photo below, just double click on the photo - or run a slideshow. Don't forget page 2!!)
