Hello,
As most of you already know I was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) over a year ago. A group of family and friends have come together in support of a fund drive to help with ALS research. There are several activities in progress at this time. The one project that I’m actively involved with is a print sale. I’m offering 32 of my favorite images in various print sizes to 16” x 24”.
My best friend, David Chauvin, generously offered to use his personal website for the print sale. David also is donating any sales of his prints to this effort. Please take time to view David’s spectacular imagery. Click below on David's name to access the print sale page on his site.

As part of the donation I am having 40 large prints custom framed. Many will go on permanent display at the Methodist Hospital ALS clinic in Houston, Texas. Some will be auctioned by the clinic. Click below on ALS clinic for more info.

I have personally put up $1,800 towards the print project. I think we all know the high price of custom framing. Our goal is $5,000. All money generated over the framing cost will be donated to ALS research. I WILL NOT use any of the money to repay my donation. We are also accepting cash donations.
Thanks,
Ronnie & Cindy Gaubert

Short update on my condition.
My condition is in steady decline. My right arm is gone and my left arm ain't far behind. My left leg has not been affected. My right thigh is getting very weak. So far the calf muscles in both legs have not been affected. The small muscles that control foot movement are shot in my right foot. I have a foot brace on my right foot for a condition called foot drop. I need a walking cane to slowly get around. I can no longer climb stairs. I have a powered wheelchair on order with a delivery date in mid-December.

This is to all those that have supported my work over the years.
An update on the progression of my battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease)
I greatly appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. This is a difficult illness to come to grips with but with time I've learned to not focus on the illness itself and just try to deal with the symptoms as they appear.
For those interested, here is my current condition after being symptomatic for 2 years and diagnosed for 1 year.
I'm still trucking along. My #1 health issue currently is my lung capacity. In 7 months it went from 75% TO 47%. Not sure at what point that becomes a serious issue but for now it doesn't seem to make much difference in my daily activities. The only thing I can manage with my right hand is to operate the mouse. I had to dissable the right click because when I left clicked many times I would also hit the right click. My index finger on my right hand no longer works so I'm using my middle finger to click the mouse. Lucky that has not changed for several months.
I have great difficulty raising my right arm above my head. My left arm and hand are starting to show some weakness but I still have 100% function. My left leg is fine but having some weakness in my right leg. My right foot is giving me the most problems. It's curving inward and causing me to walk on the outside of my foot. I have an order for a foot brace and will probaby get one next week in Houston.
Nobody can understand my speech so I mainly just type on the computer and let them read it. I have a special laptop sized computer, made by Tobii, that speaks what I type. Don't really use it at home unless I have guest. There is an attachment that allows eye control but won't need the eye control unit until I absolutely have no use of my hands.
Eating has been difficult but that hasn't changed much for the last 3-4 months. I take 2 cans of supplimental nutrient daily through a feeding tube I had surgically installed in February of this year. I pretty much eat anything I want but have to cut meat into small pieces. My doctor in Houston doesn't want me eating for fear of choking and aspirating something into my lungs. If I listen to them I would be an invalid. Us Cajuns are hard headed.
I actually feel good and just deal with my limitations. You just have to know what those limitations are and don't exceed them. I only choked one time in February and have not taken a fall. I'm very careful what I eat and more careful where I walk.
I'll try to update this from time to time.
Thanks a bunch everyone,
Ronnie

Hello, I was born October 3, 1951 in South Louisiana. I am a Prairieville, Louisiana based amatuer photographer specializing in the flora, fauna and scenery of South Louisiana. Originally from Destrehan La. but have been living in Prairieville, La. since 1998. I have been imaging for over 40 years. In December 2002 I purchased my first DSLR with the Nikon D100 but as of August 2006, I have added the Nikon D200 to my kit. I specialize in close-up photography with the Nikon 300mm f/4d lens as my favorite for this type of work. I use the Nikon PN-11 extension tubes with that lens for the vast majority of my closeup work. I also enjoy avian and landscape photography. As of August 2008 I've been using a Nikon 500mm f/4g ED-IF AF-S VRII for my Avian work in conjunction with one of the Nikon Teleconverters; TC14EII, TC17EII & TC20EII. I hope you enjoy these images from this beautiful and magical part of our state.
