WHEN MOST ARE ASLEEP

WHEN MOST ARE ASLEEP

To get a shot like this you must get up before most.
Then drive for over an hour, drag out your equipment and try to focus your camera in total darkness.
This was a 30 second exposure @ f/8
Ah! Well worth all the effort.

Paul,
About the red colors:
To the eye it doesn't appear no more than a faint red tinting to the sky.
But with a 30 second exposure, you gather more light than the eye is capable of seing.
To get the brilliant colors you have to boost contrast and saturation. This type image
is more processing than image out of the camera. The red colors are more prominant when there is a low cloud deck. See the 7th image in my Landscape Portfolio. That was a very low cloud deck that morning and it made a better showing in the sky than this one.

That's what threw me, I thought it was a western look. Lafayette gives off that much light in the morning?
Ronnie Gaubert 25-Jan-2005 01:00
Hello Paul,
Yes, I was at the very end of that point of land. Those red colors are reflected light from Lafayette. This is a western view.
Paul Dovie Jr 25-Jan-2005 00:54
Very very nice. The color is awesome. Were you on the point by the boat landing?
